Horizon Air Starts Replacing Q400 with E175's. Awww, gonna miss the Prop

Horizon Air has ordered 30 Embraer 175 aircraft, with half earmarked for growth under the widely anticipated order.

The deal is worth $2.8 billion at list prices including 33 options, the Alaska Air Group-subsidiary says today. Deliveries are scheduled from 2017 through 2020.

Portland, Oregon-based Horizon will use the E175s for growth, especially on long and thin routes that it cannot serve with its fleet of 52 Bombardier Q400s, and to replace 15 leased turboprops, it says.

“The E175s position Horizon for growth beyond our current west coast destinations while providing better customer utility in the growing Alaska Airlines network,” says David Campbell, president of the regional carrier, in a statement.
The aircraft will be configured with 76 seats, including 12 first class, 16 premium economy and 48 economy, says Horizon. Its Q400s have 76 seats in a single-class configuration.
