Default ID90 - Getting bumped in the middle?

I'm going to take a crack at multi-leg international, and was wondering about something. What happens if I book a ticket from XXX to ZZZ, connecting through YYY, and the second leg is overbooked? I'm assuming I book the ticket as a connection on ID90. Do I have two ticket numbers, and can apply for a refund on the second leg? Or is the second leg lost? Or should I have booked the legs as individual flights in the first place? I'd prefer to avoid the latter as I've (unfortunately) got to check a bag on this trip.

    thx,

If you buy paper ticket from B6, you can refund it through them. If you buy ezeds, buy one leg at a time tkts so you can refund them as needed. ezeds usually need to be reissued online, then the unused one gets refunded but there are different situations. I had ezed MXP/FCO and could not get on, so I took a bus to other airport LIN to get to Rome. I booked it on the shuttle bus! AZ accepted the "old" tkt and I had the other refunded.
I always book single legs for convenience. Paper tkts can be "assigned" to different flt, but that varies, too.
Does that help? (or did I blonde it up too much?)

For some airlines, the separate tickets may be an issue with checked bags. Most airlines don't have an issue with this, however, so that part would be something to check with the specific airlines you are considering. Either way, your bags should be pulled if you don't make it onto an international flight and you would simply recheck it with the new airline (if it came to that). ZED tickets are always priced point-to-point so you should be fine when it comes to refunding the unused portion if you have to reroute. You don't lose much if you book separate tickets other than, possibly, some extra taxes that may apply to a one way ticket as opposed to a round trip.

Depends if Op is flying on just one airline. A few airlines do not refund unused portions of multi-leg tkts.
