Default NONREVS BEWARE..Flight Cancellations. "Staff Shortages'...

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg urged airline CEOs on Thursday to ensure they can fly their schedules reliably this summer after a rise in delays and cancellations this year, according to a person familiar with the call.
The secretary asked airlines what steps they were taking to ensure that disruptions that occurred over Memorial Day weren't repeated during July 4 weekend and the rest of the summer, the person said. Buttigieg also pushed airlines to improve customer service so that passengers can rebook quickly, the person said, describing the call as "productive and collaborative."
Airlines have struggled with routine disruptions such as weather alongside staffing shortfalls and a surge in travel demand. JetBlue Airways, Delta Air Lines, Spirit Airlines, Southwest Airlines and Alaska Airlines have already scaled back their spring and summer travel schedules to give themselves more room to handle disruptions.

More than 7,100 U.S. flights were delayed and nearly 1,600 were canceled as multiple thunderstorms snarled travel to and from some of the country's busiest airports, according to flight-tracking site FlightAware.

This was a bigger issue in the spring than it will be in the summer as most airlines took steps to reduce their schedule. Travelers are upset because of schedule changes but there are no good choices here. Things are constantly changing and a crew time out, which happened but was generally solvable, is now catastrophic because flights are so full. This will be a tough summer to nonrev.

Oh yeah, because of reduced schedules and flight cancellations I've added a new step to my preflight check list. A couple days out I look at cancellations and most importantly, check to see if there is a "no charge for change fee" notice on my flights, because if there is, it's time to jump to plans B and firm up plans C,D and E, because that "no charge" notice is like the canary in the coal mine.

I’ve found checking FlightAware and entering the origin and destination shows you who’s flying, what time and who canceled or delayed. Eliminated one of my backups on UA via Iad when I saw a cancelation.

Funny how Delta is saying the picketing is not affecting flights. Although technically true, these pilots are not picking up open time trips.

This is correct. As a ATL based employee I see the operation 1st hand. We are seeing NO OVERTIME BEING PICKED UP therefore crews cannot fill flights with staff. Teams are exhausted on all levels. They are paying 2 for 1 ($64hr) and still people are not taking the bait. FA's are on the flight but still missing 2 attendants. Delay turns into CANCEL.
