    Question Question re: Visas & Standby Travel in SE Asia

    My husband and I are both US passport holders who will be travelling standby SEA-NRT with a 3 day stay, NRT-BKK for a 3 day stay, and then BKK to PVG on a fully paid ticket with a 2 hour wait for a PVG-ORD flight standby. We are applying for tourist visas for our entry to PVG (since we will not have a "confirmed seat" out of the country), but I was wondering if we needed visas for our entries into Japan or Thailand? From what I can tell we do not, but I wanted to make sure that this "no confirmed seat" business doesn't bite us in the backside for either of those countries.

    Hi Lauren

    My daughter and are trying to NONREV SFO-BKK this summer. I am just wondering if you are back from your trip and if you have any advice about flying standby into BKK. This will be our first NONREV experience to Asia.

    Are they considering nonrev as OALs? What are their pass privs like? Can friend travel same as daughter?
    How old are they? Are they willing to split up?
    BKK is one of the toughest at any time of the year. Better start thinking about LCCs. I think there are several threads on the topic. We had difficulty last year and routed thru Singapore ($$$$ BTW) the used zeds to get to our destination. We're planning to go back this fall and it might be tricky using high priority w/26 yrs seniority. Get back to us and we'll work with you on ideas.
