Singapore last night ended the world’s longest nonstop air route (9,506 miles, 19 hours) when it ended nonstop SIN -EWR service. Previously the airline ended LAX SIN nonstop service on October 22. Singapore was the first to operate the world’s longest nonstop commercial flight between SIN LAX in February 2004 on the Airbus A340-500, and then surpassing the record (in terms of distance) later that year with the nonstop service to EWR in June 2004.

Singapore Airlines is retiring its long range Airbus A340-500s. Five were operated on the two long-range routes to both LAX and EWR.
