Default Singapore Airlines Pulls back in BKK as Political Tensions Arise

Singapore Airlines will axe 19 flights to Bangkok in the coming weeks as political tensions in the Thai capital keep some travellers away.Travel agents are also seeing fewer bookings as leisure travellers opt for less-troubled spots in Thailand like Phuket. The slowdown has even affected Bangkok’s popularity as a destination for corporate travel, and meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (Mice) events, they said.

SIA, which flies five times a day to Bangkok, will cancel about one in 10 flights between Jan 14 and Feb 25.

Affected customers will be put on other flights or given refunds if they choose to cancel their plans.

Guess everyone saw UA is closing BKK? Pulling out of there might make business sense, but it surely has annoyed the employees.

Hey, Tony--when is that? My buddy rider nephew is hooked up with recent hire UA FA and they are going to meet--DL for him and UA for her. I'm sure she hasn't heard yet. Please advise--thanks!

I don't remember the exact date from the story sent out a while back, but my good friend, Wikipedia, says April 9.

UA site does not show anything after the 28 March flight inbound from NRT, and the 29th outbound back to NRT.

March 29 is the last day according to airlineroute.net. Still leaves fellow Star airlines TG, NH, SQ, CA, OZ & others to pick up the slack.
