    Default HKG-AKL on Cathay A340

    Hi
I'm planning to go to AKL next week via HKG on CX.
Just seen that CX operate an A340-300 on this 11 hour segment.
Does anyone know if there are generally any weight restriction problems for non revs on this sector ?
If there are likely to be problems - I will sort out a different routing.

    Many thanks
    Lee

I've done that sector before but I don't think they have weight restriction in any segment (Not that I'm aware of) and I fly CX quite often (short haul mostly)

Let me check with their crew and confirm for you

Also The Forum does have a CX “go-to”. I’ll send up a flare.

According to the staff, other airline non-rev will run as econ passenger. i.e. 1 piece of 23kg based on the link below.

    Thanks flyingbusman for your help.....but....

Sorry - I appear not to have phrased my question clearly.

Its not weight allowance - its weight restriction. Its not relating to the passenger - its relating to the aircraft.

In all my travel over past 5-10 years, the only times I have encountered problems not getting on a flight (when there have been empty seats) have been on long sectors operated by A340-300 aircraft, and on each occasion is was because, of course, revenue freight comes before non revenue passengers. Not sure exactly why - but perhaps they are particularly good for cargo/freight for some reason, or perhaps they were flying solid iron, lead or gold bullion on the sectors concerned ! So I am always a bit wary of long sectors on an A340-300 (A340-600 never seems to have same problems).

So the question really is - does anyone know if the CX A340 on the HKG-AKL route ever /sometimes / often / very frequently leaves non revs behind when there are empty seats, due to weight restrictions caused by cargo loads ?

    Many thanks for any info.

Lee, unfortunately our CX "go-to" was unable to answer your question. Hopefully someone else will chine in with the answer for you.
