Default July 2010 Contest: Most referrals wins a $200 Amazon Gift Certificate!

    Our biggest prizes ever!

    1st Place: $200 Amazon.com Gift Certificate.
    2nd Place: $100 Amazon.com Gift Certificate.
    3rd Place: $50 Amazon.com Gift Certificate.

===Read carefully, as you must follow the instructions to win===

Every member of nonrev.net has what is known as a "referral link". It's a link that you can share with your friends via email, your facebook "status", etc. When your friends click on the link, they will be taken to the registration page on nonrev.net to create an account. If they successfully sign up, you'll get credit for a "referral".

Step 1: You must have a nonrev.net account to enter!
( already have an account on nonrev.net? skip to step 3...)

Go here to register if you don't have an account: http://nonrev.net/register.php

The system will send you a validation/confirmation email after you register. You'll need to find that email! See step 2.

Step 2: Find the nonrev.net registration confirmation email and click the link in it

    ====== THIS IS IMPORTANT....DON'T SKIP THIS STEP!========

You must open the email and click the confirmation link to become a member!

If you can't find it: LOOK IN YOUR JUNK OR SPAM FOLDER!

Gmail Users: The Junk/Spam folder can be hard to find. If you don't see a folder in your left sidebar called "Spam", there might be another folder called "2 more" or "3 more" or "8 more"...it has a little arrow on it. Click that and the "Spam" folder will become visible.

If you skip this step, your account on nonrev.net will be very limited...you can't make posts, and you won't be eligible to win the contest.

    ==============================

Step 3: Find your referral link

How do I find my referral link?

Log into nonrev.net, and the click the "Settings" button at the top the page:

    Name: settings..jpg
Views: 2122
Size: 9.0 KB

That will take you to the settings page, and your link is explained right at the top of the page:

    Name: yourlink..jpg
Views: 3772
Size: 20.9 KB

Step 4: Share your referral link with your airline employee / interline friends

How do I share my referral link? ( e.g, "how do I win this contest?")

Two obvious ways come to mind:

    1. Send emails to your friends, with the link in it for them to follow. Something like:
Hey, I found this great nonrev travel site you might like. Sign up, and you could help me
win a contest too. Here's the link: [ put your link here ]

    2. Post your link in your facebook status, then share it with your airline employee friends:

Or maybe you could share it via twitter, post your link on an employee bulletin board, on the company intranet?

    Name: facebook..jpg
Views: 2285
Size: 10.2 KB

Make sense? You win the contest by referring the most number of people to nonrev.net using your link. When they sign up for an account, you get a "point". The person who, at the end of June 2010, has referred the most new members, wins.

    Step 5: Track your progress....

How do I tell who's winning, and how many referrals/signups I have?

The leader is the person with the highest number of referrals at the end of the month ( July 2010 ).

There's a leaderboard here: July 2010 Contest Leaderboard

You can also track your own referrals on your profile page. Click "My Profile" in the upper right hand corner of any nonrev.net page. Your total number of referrals is listed in the "General Information" section.

Note about cheating: We're reasonably internet savvy around here. Trying to win by registering a bunch of fake accounts, etc, won't work. Please be fair to others and only refer real people that have a real reason to use nonrev.net. Referring people with no interest or use for interline / nonrev travel will result in being disqualified. We reserve the right to select winners based not only on quantity of referred members, but also on quality.

Contest is still very winnable for anyone. The leader has referred 3 friends.

You can view the live leaderboard anytime: July 2010 Contest Leaderboard

    Here's the current top 5:

    Friend Referrals

    User Name Total
    sweetflier.......3
    face404..........2
    hiren .............2
    Migflanker.......2
    nonrev............2

In order to preserve fairness, we've had to change the calculation of the leaderboard.

Now, you only get credit for "unique referrals". If two or more of your referrals registered using the same computer ( by ip address ), you only get credit for one.

While there are situation where this can happen for legitimate reasons, it's also the easiest way to "cheat the system".

    Default Work IP

If we refer a bunch of people from work, will those count? (since they could potentially all be from same IP address?)

IP addresses are what is used to determine uniqueness. Company networks have a better chance of not sharing an IP address if they're on different computers. What's My IP Address? Networking Tools & More can give you the number that we'd see. Keep in mind, your own IP address must be different than those that referred you, too

Kerry, please correct me if I'm wrong here, but I think this should be about right.

I do understand Coasterpan's concern here. Some companies/airline have a single proxy server so that all employees, when they are at work, come from the same ip address.

Update: I've found a way to make exceptions for situations like this. Already accounted for the Delta.com proxy, for example. Feel free to let me know if you think you are being unfairly dinged on your referral count.

I have sent out probably 40 referrals but nobody seems to be signing up, Lol!

I have probably had a few sign up at work also since most of my referrals were to fellow employees.

I do understand the need to be fair though and am ok with it....

In your case you aren't losing any credit due to duplicate ip addresses. Just limited by getting people to sign up and/or find the confirmation email and click the link in it.

I've sent several invites as well and know more have signed up. But like some others, it's a bunch of folks from work where we do have the single proxy server.

I'm posting this post from that server now if you want to track ours. Thanks!

Okay. That's an AA proxy. Accounted for. That only gets you to three total though. You are more constrained by the folks who either didn't sign up, or didn't find the confirmation email and click the link.
