Default CO flights from Orange County to Hawaii are back

Might be good news for west-coast nonrev folks.

For the first time in two years, an airliner will take off to the west from John Wayne Airport – and keep on going.

Continental Airlines is scheduled to launch it's non-stop service from Orange County to Oahu on Sunday. The kick-off of the service will include a festive send-off for the first flight to Honolulu that is supposed to include hula dancers, musicians, and a traditional Hawaiian blessing at the departure gate.

The airline will offer daily flights to and from Honolulu and four-times-a-week service to and from Maui. Both routes will be served by long-range Boeing 737-700 aircraft.

This is good for all of us who try to get on HNL planes with heavy loads from ewr and iah - not to mention the departure time allows us to fly from the east coast without an overnight stay in CA.

HQ warns us that seat availability may not be accurately reflected. Use caution for travel to OGG and HNL from SNA on CO.

I am very glad to see a HNL-SNA flight again. When AQ flew that route it was always full and hard to get on. Up until now, I would go HNL-SEA-SNA on AS to get to SNA. Good Job CO!

US currently offers daily CLT-HNL flights for the people on the east coast. Someone has told me that this flight almost always has open seats.

while any new flight is good for nonrevs (assuming it's not in place of an old one)... does it strike anyone else as odd to use a 737 (even if long-range) on an overseas flight? I thought it was bad enough that NW would use 757s from the west coast to HNL, but that's smaller yet...

We flew over there recently. It was awful in such a tiny plane. The flight seemed to take forever.
