where are you flying to and from? I am also looking to fly to europe on S4 around the same time. How is it looking for you? I am trying to fly out from Bos to LHR during the last weekend of May. Waiting to hear about loads from my Dl friend. She has 30 years w Delta so that should help. Can you upgrade the buddy pass to a higher standby priority? Are you finding better points of departure? I assume you can gate check luggage once you are cleared to fly.
papa--you need to ask your employee for the DL rules of nonrev travel you gobefore she can email of fax but you should not use a buddy pass without being properly educated
you don't get upgraded any way but thru DOH seniority
you can check (or not) a bag on most routes--a few routes do not recommend buddies check a bag at all--it may lessen your chance of getting boarded last minute (that's one of the rare ways a buddy who is junior may get a seat instead of you)
good luckand have fun paying those nasty LHR taxes/fees

Yeah the fees at LHR are not fun but if we get on the flight I won't complain. Promise. I can't imagine traveling with just a carry on to Europe. Thanks!
We always travel with a small carry-on roller board and a smaller bag....works great.
I'm with Pago on carry bags. Just did 12 day nonrev trip to Thailand w/22 inch carry and small handbag. My neice had a little less than I did!!

Like they said, small carry-on bag is the way to go. Try and get a short one that fits "wheels first". It will make your life much easier.
OK I'm convinced. I'll try to fit into my small wheeled bag and just mini size all toiletries into carry on. I guess I'll have to roll up lots of knit wear and limit shoes..very tough. I just saw a great line of handbag's designed by FA's for travel. Would love to hear any great tips for packing light. Not traveling with my two boys will make it easier.
I've always found that low maintenance toiletries is important but the KEY is limiting shoes!! If you can't wear a pair of shoes with at least half your clothes, you're taking too many! I have banned all trainers/sneakers for INT travel--ack--I might look like a tourist!! (heaven forbid!!) 2 pair shoes MAX. You'll find it so easy to deal with packing.
I don't take many knits--just woven fabrics--they pack lighter. My fave trick is JUMBO HEFTY bags--OMG!!! You can get 2-3 garments fold in each one and smaller items fit in gallon bags, undies in quart size bags--throw them out after a few trips. They keep stuff organized, clean and safe from TSA type hands...and you can fit so much in a small space.

Guilty on over packing shoes. Love the Hefty idea. I have some of those vacuum sealed bags that keep things reasonably wrinkle free. I use zip locks for toiletries all the time. My bags always get searched. Thanks for the good advice.
I've got a question that sort of relates to this thread. There are usually differences in the number of available seats in coach that are shown on travelnet vs delta.com for various reasons, but business/first are usually the same on both websites. I'm listed on a flight that shows 2 available in business on travelnet but 6 available on delta.com. Any thoughts on why that would be? It's a codeshare flight with Air France.
