Don't limit yourself to $9.00hr, Airline jobs have always been based on the more you know the more you make. Learn Ops, get ALA qualified, be a supervisor, ect. If all you want is to load bags and fly for free, then $9.00hr is all you will get. I work for REAS whos start pay is also $9.00hr. I have been here for 3 1/2 years and I make over $13.00hr.....(reg ACS @ 3years makes $10.50Hr)plus a ton of OT......don't limit yourself....

    What is being ALA qualified?

I think that is important.... working in the airline industry now is just a job, not a career. Work part time for the flight benefits and pay your bills elsewhere.

ALA= Aircraft Load Agent. I quess you don't work mainline on the ramp? Its for mainline flights. The agent responsiable for the weight&balance on flights. Your right, work for benis and pay make mony else were. I wil tell you the 90% of us in MIA are paying bills with this job.

We just handle CRJ2/7/9 and EMB170/175 for regionals at MSP. We check our weight limits before loading, but it isn't anything too crazy.

I feel like it is the opposite here, a small number of full time employees, but mainly part time / part time flex people working for flight benefits. I do "full time flex", which is a part time flex schedule but pick up full time hours. At this point, I think the only way to make a living in the airline industry is working for an actual major airline. Working for a contractor means your contract will possibly be lost every 3 years and you'll start over on the pay scale with whoever takes over.

Working for an Airline right is now is not safer than working for a contracter. There are folks who have over 15 years senority with airlines that lose their jobs due to cust everyday. Here in MIA, AA has just outsourced their daylight cabin contract and over 50 AA enior employees will bump back to the line and take out 50 AA workers with senority as high as 15 years. It's sad to say that vendors/contracters/subsiduarires will countinue to grow as Airlines countinue to contarct work out. I would love nohting more than to say I work for XXXXXX Airline but at this point in the game it might just be to late. Evan DL only now hires ready reserves and gives out packages for senior agents to retire....Hang in there.......

MSP has been awarded to DGS. Good luck to all those who are affected.

We've had a couple meetings with a DGS rep. From what I heard, everyone is taking a paycut. At REAS, all below wing agents were paid the same. At DGS, aircraft cleaners are paid a dollar less per hour. I think the top out is about $9 / hour for ramp agents. No one way shift trades, shift trades have to be "paid back" with in 30 days. No PTO for 6 months and agents can only accrue a max of 1 week per year. Full time health insurance for a family is $400+ per month.

DL is currently hiring ready reserve and DL is hiring a lot of REAS employees. Those that are close to retirement told me that they would just stick it out for a couple years so they can retire with flight benefits. I am not sure how DGS is going to keep up with attrition considering how bad working conditions will be going forward.

Sorry to hear all that. We spoke with some DGS statons and we knew we would get killed on pay if they came in. So, must of us are glad it wasnt them. Starting pay in MIA will be $13.81hr and thats due to a MIA cost of living ordinace that was put into action in 2003. Pay goes up as the cost of living rises. So all vendors must adhere to this law. Airlines and subsidiaries can pay whatever they want. We have lost our travel benefits and REAS as given us 1 year of yield fare travel for every year of service up to 10 years. I sucks, we know but it could have been worst. As a lead, I will probably be starting at $15+HR.

    Good Luck Everyone......
