AMS Hotels for non-employee nonrevs

We're doing a trip later this month that will probably have us overnighting at Schiphol a couple of times. We're parents, not employees, so we can't use the hotels available though Perks that requie employee ID at check-in. The information sheet that our son gave us about nonreving though AMS is two years old,

Does anyone know hotels that now give a discount to non-employee, nonrev's?

We can't make reservations since we're nonreving from JFK to wherever in Europe we can catch a flight, but AMS is the first flight of the day and usually has availability. It's likely that we'll end up in either AMS, BRU, MAD, or LHR - any of which are fine with us. AMS gives us the most flexibility so it is our first choice.

Lucky for us that the kids get a kick out of our nonrev travels and don't mind hanging out at the computer to relist us if we don't get on a flight. We give them a flowchart so they don't have to waste time. If we miss flight A, they list us for flight B and so on until we either get a flight or go home to try the next day.

I do a lot of travelling - sometimes to some obscure places, and I consistently use booking.com for all my accommodation. Never had any problems.

You have availability, price, and hotel details all in one place. But if you've never used the site before, do check the reviews for each hotel. I'll stay almost anywhere, but that will not suit everyone. I normally check the hotels before I leave home and have a short list of ones that I’d prefer. And don't be swayed by the "only one room left" indicator - I do most of my bookings on the day before each arrival, (and occasionally on the actual day), and although the choice might be a little restricted compared to say a week before, it all works very well for me.

I've just looked at Schiphol airport for today (arriving this evening), and I see some nice hotels with discounted rates as well as the cheapo places I would usually choose. The discount might be just as good as what you would get by any other means (e.g. airline employee etc.)

Hope this helps in the absence of any better advice.

It doesn't hurt to mention that your kids (or parents for that fact) are working in the airline industry for any kind of related affinity discounts i.e. "Friends and Family".

Use hotels.com through dlnet for 10% off. I have never been asked for ID when using hotels.com this way. Most of the time hotel discounts are not much better than using hotels.com, booking.com and others.

Thanks, but we don't have dlnet access (we're parents) and the kids do enough work for us on flights.
