It is getting closer and I am getting nervous! I have non-rev tickets on US Airways for mid October, leaving on a Tuesday to Rome, returning the following Tuesday (leaving from PHL, that was the recommended starting city). I need to stop looking online at the seating. I am making myself nervous! There are still empty seats, the day before is filling up a lot.

A US Airways FA told me to be flexible, if another airport in Italy looks good then just go there and take the train to Rome. Do you think that is a good idea?

Any other suggestions/ideas/ what to do in Rome/ how it was for you getting around? Anything you think would help I would appreciate!

Relax, repeat, Relax. I normally non-rev domestically. I have gone to Iceland, London and Montreal. Still makes me nervous going so far away!

Luv,

Gigi

P.S. The new place looks great! I had to make a new account since I could not remember my old name!

well, with 20 yrs seniority and options of 5 Delta flights to fco today and return the 6th, I am sitting here cking nonrev.net and not going to rome...

taking the train is only advisable if you can fly somewhere NEAR rome. I'd look at LCC's--some trains can take 6-8 hours+ which really digs into a city stay. Stick to your original plan since seat currently look good. Don';t freak about the day before until it becomes an issue. Breathe--you can do it--breathe..

Thanks nonrev1 for the Welcome Back

mrs767er, do you think the flights are full this week due to the holiday. I know domestically one teeny tiny holiday will make all of our flights full!

If they start looking full I am going to look into the day before to other cities and do the train. That way we can get our sleep in on the 6-8 hours!

breathe...positive thoughts...breathe

Breathing is GOOD!! you just plan for the worst and have things in place for options. Most flights to fco have been full for 6 months on Delta. This is the first time my husband actually bid for 48 hr layover thinking it would work--well, that's ok--at least he's thinking of me! I think he was more disappointed than I was. I've never been, but I can bet it will still be there in the next few months-yes? I'll try IST at the end of the month--looks pretty good so far...
Good luck Gigi. keep us in the loop.

Hey, Gigi--what's the scoop on your seat status? Hope it's shaking down to good numbers. I've been watching JFK/IST to go with my husband for w few days (my first time there) and it looks ok one day and impossible the next. So, I wait...and watch!

It was a wonderful trip. I have been home for 3 days now and I am still on cloud 9 that I had the opportunity to go to Rome and Pompei.

The way to FCO the agent was kind to give us both 2 seats, so we had a row of 4 seats to ourselves. The way back we both had middle seats, and I was just as happy

Just go mrs. You will drive yourself crazy watching the numbers ( I finally stopped looking at the seats about 5 days before my trip because it was driving me crazy!). I do highly recommend going on Tuesdays. If you are going to do it, do it before the 1st week of November or wait until late January or February. I am a gate/counter agent and have a pretty good sense of the number game.

There are never any guarantees mrs. I will say I gave myself a four day bumper to get back and a reserve of $700. I didn't use the bumper days nor the reserve money. I did leave on Tuesdays both ways, knowing full well that Mondays are busy days and that oversells occur on those days. On my return there were about 20 non-revs trying to get on the flight. We were pretty lowdown on the list being "other airline". We got on, I do know there were a couple of people left behind. I was also aware that the next day there were over 65 seats available, so I really didn't worry too much.

I do always bring chocolates for the agents. I never give it beforehand because I don't want it looked at as a bribe or anything similiar. I always use it as a thank you for being a gate/counter agent. Their job can be thankless at times. People seem to forget that it takes more than a couple of pilots and FA's to get that plane off the ground. I give something to the agent that checks my bags and the gate agent. I know when a nonrev gives me something, even a tiny little miniature chocolate it makes me happy to think they thought of me

I miss my Italian Cappuccino. What is that stuff that Starbucks sells? It is certainly not Cappuccino!

Hi Gigi,

I'm glad it went well for you. I'd love to hear more about Rome. You could start a new topic here in the Europe forum to give us a trip report.
