Default LIS Ranked Best EURO Getaway

Lisbon, the cosmopolitan and fascinating capital of Portugal, has been named Europe’s Leading City Break Destination.
The city triumphed at the prestigious World Travel Awards, considered by many to be the ‘Oscars’ of the travel industry, at the Europe Gala Ceremony held in Antalya, Turkey.

The esteemed World Travel Award was presented to Turismo de Lisboa in the presence of some of the most prominent figures in the global travel industry, including key decision makers, chief figure heads and the leading trade and consumer media.
This latest win marks the third time Lisbon has been recognised as Europe’s Leading City Break Destination in the awards over the last five years.

The Portuguese capital is famed for its year-round pleasant climate, rich culture and beaches located just 20 minutes from the city center, plus a price-quality ratio unrivalled anywhere else in Europe.

“We are thrilled to see LIS taking its rightful place as the top city break destination in Europe,” commented Paula Oliveira, executive director at Turismo de Lisboa

Now, if we can just get DL to fly there. Been once on one of the old "Delta Escape" membership trips. We joined for a small fee and they'd offer last-minute travel (Wed emails) for 3-5 nts stays, based on ATS loads. That was in my rev days--my entire family belonged and we went oodles of places (dom and int) --ARN, LIS, CDG, WAW and a few more. We did ARN for $300 RT AI and got bulkhead seats by first class. My parents were in heaven! What a blast! Thank goodness they don't have THAT program anymore! LIS has much to offer. This was our fave hotel and they had an incredible huge terrace triple room that had SUCH a view--check out pics on TA and more:

My trip was with my parents--about 70+ yrs old. That suite was perfect for us--it was the one they feature on their site, with a nice daybed to accommodate yours truly. The terrace had 3 chaises under the overhang , so we ordered some cocktails, had one each and snoozed for about an hour when it drizzled. Ask them for airline discount (can't hurt?)--and don't forget the penthouse location for breakfast. Stunning view. It's in a weird local neighborhood but has views of the monastery. Do a bit of a search and you'll find lots more inf about the local area. I'll find my old notes and add later. If you're taking your mom--spend the price and do it right--I think the big terrace is a bit more, but I am guessing she's worth it.
