Default Breaking....LH Pilots, FA's On Strike Again. Nonrevs Beware

Lufthansa cancelled hundreds of flights on Friday after cabin crew union UFO announced a walkout on flights from FRA and DUS from 14:00 CET.
On the first day of a planned week of strike action over failed pension talks, flight attendants are being called to strike at FRA and DUS until 23:00 CET, affecting around 37,500 passengers.
Lufthansa said it had cancelled 290 flights planned for Friday including 15 long-haul departures. Eight long-haul flights will still take off, it said.
More strike action can be expected on Saturday at Frankfurt, the union said, but Lufthansa's other main hub in MUN will not be subject to walkouts until after Sunday, given school holidays in that region.
Lufthansa Group airlines Swiss, Austrian Airlines, Germanwings, Eurowings, Brussels Airlines, Air Dolomiti and Cityline will not be affected by the strike. That means that overall, the airlines group can carry out 90 percent of the 3,000 flights it typically operates on a Friday.

Update....Lufthansa has canceled 520 flights scheduled for today, with at least 58,000 passengers expected to be affected as cabin crew went on their longest-ever strike in a 2 year-long pensions dispute. Cabin staff joined the strike for the first time. The Independent Flight Attendants Organization (UFO) plans to stage walkouts over the course of the next six days.

Strikes by pilots have already cost Lufthansa 130 million euros so far this year. Equinet analyst Jochen Rothenbacher told Reuters that walkout costs could total 20 million euros ($21 million) a day, depending on the number of cancellations. Should the union strike for seven days, as promised, it could cost the company 140 million euros.

All European and domestic services have been scrapped, with the exception of some flights between MUN and FRA, as well as three Frankfurt-London Heathrow links. No intercontinental flights will be hit, however, the airline said, with the exception of one connection between DUS and EWR.

Update...A cabin crew strike at Lufthansa will expand Tuesday night to affect all of the German airline's flights in an escalating dispute over benefits.A union representing the flight attendants called Tuesday for its members to widen the strike, which began Friday at Germany's three main airports.
Tens of thousands of passengers have been affected so far by hundreds of cancelations.
Lufthansa confirmed that all of its flights from Germany would be affected from 10 p.m. Tuesday ET until Friday afternoon.
Lufthansa Strike Costs 10 Million Euros a Day
The UFO union wants to secure transition payments for its 19,000 members if they retire early, among other demands as part of its contract dispute with Lufthansa, which is trying to cut costs.
The union rejected the airline's latest offer Monday, saying it constituted only a "minimal" improvement.
