I'm looking for a way to back myself up w/OALs (esp ANC to anywhere) w/o going through my pass bureau (5-7 days)

We were just informed that we can no longer mechanically E-Ticket ourselves on OAL, however we may have managers/supervisors write 4400 paper tickets .... provided w/have fare/taxes info in hand.

One tip to contribute, don't want to call it a trick....is to go to the passneger services counter/station w/in the gates/terminal...where they (another airline that we have benefits on (HP)) were able sell/write open passes (bought 3 one for each of us) on SW, and they agent mentioned that they could do this for Horizon also...

While it's nice to have some back-up, these have to be renewed or used w/in 90 days...and it's just not financially feasible to hold on to 1/2 dozen OAL passes

So any info re: on the spot service charge, ZED or ID90 passes, circumventing the time frame from my pass bureau would be gr8ly appreciated!

    TIA

    TIA means: Thanks in Advance

    No YV contracting/flying on w/HP

But I know that Horizon contracts w/Alaska, and I only have a 3 month probation there and it's a service charge versus 6 months w/Alaska

Advice on using Alaska/Horizon as a back-up out of ANC, maybe ANC/SEA or better yet ANC/PHX ?

Ah, I'll have to remember that one. AS is probably the best way to leave ANC if you are heading to the lower 48. We have anywhere from 15-20 flights a day from ANC-SEA and (for now) 3 nonstops from ANC-PDX so it is a rare day where a nonrev can't get down with us. We also have 1 daily nonstop ANC-YVR and 1 daily nonstop ANC-ORD as well. QX (Horizon) flies smaller props and jets within the western part of the lower 48 and they are terrific. Those service charge passes are a real treat, though I understand we are switching to the ZED system sometime within the next year. As to ANC-PHX, well, only America West does that one nonstop.

Oh, and Horizon doesn't technically contract with Alaska. We are actually both owned by Alaska Air Group so are sister carriers under the same corporate umbrella. While we are two different companies, our reservation/nonrev/benefits systems are seemless. I don't know of any other company that works that way.

That explains a lot....why I can get QX passes for cheap, but can't go ID90 on Alaska for 2 more months (4 month old newby here)

Plan now is for us (3 pax) to go to PHX/ANC on 3-4SEP return 25-29 hours later...seems like HP has opened up in the last week or two?

Does this seem safe, or would you suggest QX back-up?

    TIA

First, you should know that QX doesn't fly into PHX. Only AS flies there for us. As to your back-ups, our flights out of PHX are pretty full on the 3rd and 4th but not oversold or anything. Once out of PHX, you are all set to get up to ANC. A back up pass isn't a bad idea.

    Thank you...

I noticed HP had 17 cancellations on Thursday, so we are nervous. Our flights look good both ways as of now, even gonna list F class....just don't want to get stuck that far away from home....

Looking at carriers I have benefits on (not employed 6 months yet) and the flight times that will get us home and me back to work on Monday... I could find NO QX flights out of ANC....so we are gonna take paper tickets (4400 payroll deduct, just rip em up if not used) for UA to ORD unless you know of a better back up option? (trying for PHX by 10 PM Sunday, then drive home)

    TIA again

You mentioned that "you are no longer able to issue E-tkt on OAL".

Am I correct to assume you were once able to issue ID90 tickets as e-tkt? Has anyone else seen this? If this is true I am suprised. I have never heard of this. My understanding was that all ID90 tickets are paper. Technology just isn't reliable enough to pass PNR for non-revs onto OAL as e-tkt. Its hard enough with revenue interline e-tkt.

    What have y'all seen?

Remember I am kind of "New" at this and maybe calling machine tickets written on ticket stock by the wrong name versus hand written tickets on paper?
(I do receive such from FA's going to work through my terminal on a weekly to daily basis, who knows where they (the tickets) originate?

The agent that was proficient at this just left for a postion w/Comtinental...but he would call some desk at the OAL, get the fare/tax breakdown, the write both S/C and ID tickets...through the computer and the machine using ticket stock?

Probably why we are told we can "No Longer" do that?
