I know because we non-rev we are subject to extra screening (so I have been told because we bought last minute tickets) is this true? Someone told me that the person at the ticket counter has the option of "de-selecting" you from the extra screening if they wanted to. Is this true? It would certainly save me lots of time if they could. I get tired of TSA always going through my bags taking off my shoes to be tested for explosive materials. I am all for the screening process and non-rev's should not be exempt from the screening it's just that I would love to be in the random number. Because we go through this every single time we non-rev, I have to leave for the airport extra early to get through the security lines.

Does everyone go through this or I am just "black balled"?

Here's my general observation from the SWA side of things.

More often than not a one-way ticket purchase will "random" a pax. I've found this to be true for non-rev listings as well. Over the last few years I have noticed that when we list non-rev, one-way on SWA we are always a "selectee". If we make our listing roundtrip (even if we have no intention of using the return) we are never selected.

Thank for the info, I will try to list roundtrip in the future to see if this helps.

90% of the time when I fly non-rev in the states I get the SSSS treatment. I don't find any problems with it as the line is usually faster than the regular screening.

As a trainer for Frontier, we trach our new Customer Service people to deselect all non-rev flyers! This is our company policy and it is followed here in Den ( we are the hub and watched!). Your own airline should never quad S you! Other airlines may do it to spite you so be nice. Also you need to know that you are subject to go to the front of the TSA line but you do have to go through metal detectors and such just like everyone else. TSA will search everyone's shoes in most places and if they see something that looks iffy your employee badge does not exempt you from being searched. The same goes with the no fly and eatch list. If your name comes up because it is similar to a "person of risk's" name, you have to be cleared in exactly the same way as all other passangers.

I find that if I list at least 48 hours in advance and round trip, I don't get selected. Anytime I list within that 48 hour window or one way, I am chosen. I started looking for patterns when I realized that 4 trips in a row I was selected and that just seemed beyond random. I actually prefer to be chosen because I get through security much faster in most airports. In fact, I got the the last seat on a flight out of MCO in November because I was chosen and someone missed their flight due to long security lines (flight was oversold by 7 when I checked) so I don't mind.

More often than not I get the extra screening, when I asked about it, was told passengers were chosen at random by computer... somehow I don't think 75%+ probability is random.
Like Randy and Donna I think the extra screening has to do with the way we travel (one-way) and listing only days before a flight.

I thought you might get a kick out of this (see attachment)
