TSA and Continental Airlines expand paperless boarding pass program

"This innovative approach wlll allow passengers to receive boarding passes eletronically on their cell phones or PDAs, which will then be scanned by TSA security officers at the checkpoint, eliminating the need for a paper boarding pass."

Am I the only one that has trouble with their cell phone at the airport??? Hello...hello....

to paraphrase famous ad: "can you hear it now?" !!

Pax will be in line, phone to ear, telling TSA, "sorry, I need to finish this call."
TSA--"sure, sir, no problem, just step over there."
    Pax-- "ok, I'm ready."
TSA, "sorry, sir, you'll have to go the back of the line."
Argument ensues, YouTube has it and it's all over the news even BBC...

Really, how is that working out? I have visions of TSA not being able to verify the passes on those tiny little cell phone screens and sending everyone back to the kiosks for paper copies.

Delta has had PDA check-in for quite some time now, but you cant use it at the TSA checkpoint, the way ours works is you check in on your phone or PDA which creates a barcode then when you get to the airport you scan the barcode at a kiosk and it prints out your boarding pass without having to go thru all the steps...

No, it is not truly paperless, but until the TSA allows all airlines to do it at all airports it is the closest thing that we can do to allow PDA/mobile check-in...

All is well, I have been on a little vacation and not online that much - but now it is back to the grind of the two jobs and needing my internet to "escape" sometimes...

Alaska will be starting the eBP (electronic boarding pass) test in October and it includes AS/QX employees and Gold members at first. It will truly be paperless as the two dimensional bar codes will be scanned for baggage, TSA and boarding.

    Cool changes ahead!
