Great advice indeed. I'd only add this,
Ohrass, decide if you will split your party in advance
carry printouts - it's easy to remember plan B, not so much plan D & E.
and don't check bags unless you real-ly have too. 'Just your carry-on' gives you that "can you make it to the gate before the door closes" option.

Oh yes we have discussed traveling light and splitting up...but never thought of printouts, that definitely makes sense because of all the turmoil of travel. If we have a written down game plan we will not have to rack our brains for alternatives or try to remember the next step

    Awesome!
    Thanks

We live in Indianapolis and when planning on our return, besides IND, I check loads for SDF, CVG, DAY, BMI, CMI, SBN, FWA, and a few others.
We have had to rent a car one way from DTW to IND once....6 hour drive but at least we go back!!!
I will kep the one-way rental in mind when planning my travels. Thanks!

Unless you take an RJ and gate check that carry on and then they lose it. Sigh... never will I be rushed with my gate check again - laptop, tickets you are coming with me on my person!
