    Default LAX weekend trip

    Hi everyone,

The wife and I will probably take a weekend trip to LAX (shes never been west of Alabama, bless her heart), and I was wondering is it pretty easy/cost effective to get around via public transit or would it better to rent a car(with taxes and junk fees ive seen them as low as $38). We will probably stay at the Hacienda or somewhere close, go shopping, introduce her to jack in the box, carls jr, and of course the walk of fame.

Awwwww. That is so sweet! Love Hacienda patio lounge area. Wine from Ralphs, eggs Benedict at the diner. Beyond that, I have no clue but I'm sure it will be fun. Haven't used the pool there but maybe a short lounge time might be nice for those of us cursed by winter (we had snow today--EEK)

First of all, LA is very spread out, the best way to see it is by car (make sure to take a drive down PCH with the top down and the music on.)

Hollywood and Highland Center Hollywood and Highland Center - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia -TCL Chinese Theatre/Walk of Fame/ Dolby Theatre
Parking is a bear down there, so park in one of the structures, the restaurants do validate.
BTW, Hollywood has lost some of it’s luster. There are a lot of “tacky” souvenir stores, street performers, celebrity impersonators and costumed superheroes getting their photos taken with tourists for tips. It can be disappointing.
The Walk of Fame is really just the sidewalk with plaques embedded , you just have to look down.
    Hotels--
The Hacienda Hotels Near LAX | El Segundo CA Hotels | Hacienda Hotel is near LAX (airline rates) it has a shuttle (you have to call) and as M7 mentioned there’s a strip mall with grocery store & restaurants across the street.
The Sheraton Universal,Starwood Hotels & Resorts near Universal Studios Hollywood is other one I recommend. They offer a nice hotel- park pkg
BTW, you’re coming to L.A. you’ll want a LA burger, try In-N-Out (animal style), you'll love it
There one just outside the airport- 9149 S. Sepulveda,; there will be cars in the drive-thru.

Thanks MIG and MRS. the last time I was out in LAX was 2006, and I remember all the street performers and "celebrities" (my sister swears to this day she met Michael Jackson there). I called the Hacienda and they confirmed rates between 66-69, so we may end up there.
I almost forgot about In-N-Out, but I will definitely get familiar with their secret menu. In-N-Out's Secret Menu | Badmouth

    Links & Tips
Hollywood & Highland--make sure to visit the observation deck (4th floor I think) Hollywood and Highland center

The Getty Center & The Getty Villa, great views https://www.getty.edu/visit/
Admission is free for both but you do need reservations and you pay for parking

Hollywood Bowl -jazz under the stars, what’s not to like. -About.com: http://hollywoodbowl.com/

TV audience tickets - Some of the shows are on hiatus, but there are a few. Audiences Unlimited, Inc. | Free TV Studio Audience Tickets | tvtickets.com

DO NOT take a tour of the Chinese theatre - it’s a movie theater
DO NOT buy stars maps or take a tour of stars homes; trust me, all you’ll see is driveways, high walls and iron gates.
DO NOT buy an Oscar statuette, Hollywood t-shirt or Cali license plates - instead buy a great pair of sunglasses- now that’s L.A.

I’m not familiar with El Conquistador’s. (Silver Lake- really you go way out there?
I do agree they should try some good Mexican food. I usually take out-of-towners to Tito’s in Culver City, Tito's Tacos yeah it’s nothing fancy and they don’t served margaritas and parking can be a pain, but the burritos and tacos are muy bueno. And when you just landed at LAX and need a burrito on your way home, it's the place to stop.
