Ok, I'll bite--what are the tube things?
Those are 26 tempered glass pylons of changing colored lights. There are 11 along Century Blvd which range from 25ft to 60ft (6ft diameter) and 15, 100ft (12ft diameter) at the entrance to the airport. They’re lit from dusk to dawn.
The pylons were first lit in August 2000.

Point Of Order
On August 4, LAX was designated the “Airport of The Week”.
So you can image my surprise when this morning August 8, a mere 4 days later, I see that the title “Airport of the week” has been given to another.
Is a week now, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, a mere 4 days?
I sympathize with those of you that consider Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday boring, uninteresting and just days to slog through as one races to the week-end, but I urge you to show patience. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday are important days and like the sun and the moon keep balance in the universe; besides, do you really want Thursday tacos, “Stormy” Friday, and to hear yourself actually utter “Is it really only Saturday?”
I formally request LAX be given it’s full seven days in the spotlight.
