San Bernardino International Airport will see its maiden scheduled international passenger services later this quarter Mexican budget carrier Volaris Airlines

Volaris said in a statement this week that a 2x weekly service from GDL, to San Bernardino, located 110 kilometres east of LAX would commence from June 29 onwards.

“The launch of these new routes strengthens our presence in the Greater Los Angeles Area and provides our customers with additional options for visiting relatives, business travel and leisure,” Holger Blankenstein, chief commercial officer of Volaris, said. “We strive to combine affordable fares with routes that previously featured no scheduled air service. These additions help us achieve our goal of increasing connectivity between Mexico and the U.S.”

The airfield currently serves general aviation and cargo traffic. It is located on the site of Norton Air Force Base, a United States Air Force facility that was decommissioned in 1994.
