    Exclamation Consolidating Service

"Does it make sense for more than one of us to be flying to a city when there are only a few seats filled on each plane? It may make more sense to maintain service to that city, but put all passengers on one plane."
    ---unidentified airline executive (CNBC)

Carriers consolidating service (smaller markets-domestic flights)
How would it work? How would you set price? Revenue Sharing? All good questions.

I give you it sound a bit out there, but then again, we're living in unprecedented times- there's wide-open freeways in LA.

    So non-revs, your thoughts:

I see this as being an issue with the rules against colluding to set prices. I would think the airlines would need to go to the feds and make sure (in writing) that this would even be possible. That being said, local market codesharing would be the obvious answer. Airlines could make temporary local market codeshare agreements for markets and allow each to sell the other flights, say through September. A temporary schedule that would, in essence, share revenue for certain city pairs the same way current local market codeshares operate.

It is definitely grim. I have take a 90 day leave that began yesterday. Not sure what I will do with myself but I could do it so I will figure it out while helping the company. Hopefully things will pick up June/July time frame.

I'm thinking "hopefully" June/July too and a cutback on those plane orders.
