Default Hello all - new to the site

Hello all. I have found your board after doing a bit of research into a trip I'm planning.

I've worked in the airline sector for over 12 years now and ever since starting in the world of airlines and aviation I've had an ambition to non-rev around the world on back-to-back flights. I know this is a little crazy and hardly a relaxing way to spend 5 days but it's an itch I need to scratch.
After years of wanting to do it, with babies, life and a small thing called "a pandemic" getting in the way I have finally found some time to do this trip this year.
My trip is a mix of circumnavigating the globe mixed with flying airlines and trypes I've yet to fly on.
From Scotland I'm planning on positioning to MUC to fly the LH A346 to LAX as they have brought them out of retirement and I never got to fly the type before they retired them at the start of 2020.
From there I'll do LAX-SYD on DL A359, SYD-DXB on EK A388 and return home to Scotland from Dubai.
Has anyone ever done anything like this before and what are the mentioned airlines like with other airline Non-revs?
Looking forward to chatting to other like-minded airline employees. For info I work on the ground as a station ops/customer services duty manager.

Welcome aboard Revatron, there’s a seat for you right down front. With years of non-revving under your belt you’re no doubt keenly aware of the uncertainty of non-rev travel in the best of times and know that planning to circumnavigate the globe on back-to-back flights in 5 days is quite the undertaking. Plus, in the present environment with staffing shortage, changing schedules and equipment - banking on a certain aircraft is not 100%. (It’s funny, I was just talking with friends that want to fly on AS’s new Star Wars plane – trust me, it’s the “Millennium Falcon” or bust!)
My advice is to plan, have back-ups and enjoy the flights, and do go downstairs on that LH flight to LAX.
The Forum has had quite a few members that have done trips where airplane type was a major factor, but none have checked in recently. I will see if I can pull up something.
    Keep'em Flying

Hi. Thanks for the reply. I’m in serious planning mode - I have a spreadsheet of 1st choice flights and alternatives should that fail. Anyone who knows me knows that once Excel comes out things are getting serious!

I’ve chosen my route so that there are
multiple airlines offering the same or very similar routes - i.e LAX-SYD have DL, UA, QF all leaving at the same time so hopefully a good chance of getting on something.
The main goal is definitely ‘going downstairs’ on the A346. The A350 and A380 will be around for a while yet so while I’d like to get them under my belt I have a few years yet on those types. If I can’t get MUC-LAX on the A346, LH also do JFK or BOS on the same day with that type and I’m quite prepared to change routings. At the end of the day I just love flying and aviation so just being on a plane is good enough for me.
