Default Connection in MUC to FCO

We are flying to Rome next week from ATL. I'm always looking at a backup plan just in case. Right now the ATL-MUC looks good as a back up. I could connect in MUC to FCO. My question is once you clear customs, how would you airport standby list for LH ? Would you have to go back to check- in and then back through security? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

If you ZED prior, you can present your DL boarding pass and shield your LH so if you get bumped, your already listed on LH..

You won't clear customs in MUC (unless your baggage is only checked through to here - in that case you just exit the baggage area and out into the main arrivals area). Like I said if your bag is checked straight through to FCO then you will clear customs there. Depends on your companies interline agreements with baggage transfer.

    Rgds and happy flying.

ps: If you mean immigration i.e. passport control then yes this will be checked at MUC regardless if you are transferring or not. But as you mentioned customs I assume your question relates to baggage clearance.

We did end up going through MUC. We had not checked any bags. All I can say about MUC is WOW! What a clean efficient airport. The Germans really have a jewel of an airport. We had no problem whatsoever going from one terminal to another.
I cannot say enough good things about LH. 24 hrs prior to departure I received an email from LH stated I could check in. I did thinking I would have airport standby listed only. They went ahead and assigned our seats! It really was nice not to have to worry if we were going to get on the flight. We will do it again if we ever need to. MUC is a good back up.FCO on the other hand is another story. I hope this information might help anyone looking for alternate airports to nonrev through.
