2003 Best Beaches

For the first time in years the Panhandle of Florida did not get on Dr. Beach's top 10 beaches in the USA list

. The only explaination I have is that once you are number one on the list you can never be on the list again. Check out the list!

AMERICA'S BEST BEACHES 2003

America's Top Beaches for 2003 are:

1. Kaanapali, Hawaii-the National Winner
2. Fort DeSoto Park, Florida
3. Ocracoke Island, North Carolina
4. Hanalei Bay, Hawaii
5. Caladesi Island State Park, Florida
6. Main Beach, East Hampton, New York
7. Makalawena Beach, Hawaii
8. Hanauma Bay, Hawaii
9. Cape Florida State Recreational Area, Florida
10. Cape Hatteras, North Carolina

Previous National Winners, which are excluded from the survey, are:

• 2002 St. Joseph Peninsula State Park, Florida
• 2001 Poipu Beach Park, Hawaii
• 2000 Mauna Kea Beach, Hawaii

Once again the mysterious Dr Beach has found that the majority of America's top beaches are in Florida and Hawaii, while California beaches don't even rate in the top ten.
Talk about holding a grudge. Coyne, this guy is way to upset he couldn't get a date with Malibu Barbie.

What I'm wondering is why a beach can't be it more than once? If there are certain criteria or scoring system, it would seem that the same beaches would be named at least every now and then. I'm thinking it's more of a promotional thing to promote tourism to different areas than it is to actually rank beaches on specific criteria in a fair, unbiased manner. I guess I'm just too freakin' logical.

Hey Coyne, do you have Dr. Beach's Web address so we can read a little more about the beaches and how they were ranked. I'm shooting for taking the family to Hawaii in September.

Chris,
Only if the beach is number one in the US is it taken off the list forever. Since so many of our beaches have been number one the panhandle of Florida is not as well represented.

I would not list this beach on my top 100, never mind top 10... Wonder what the criteria is, overcrowding?
