Default Is it crazy trying to nonrev 5 of us to KOA from LAX or SFO in late June?

    I'm fairly inexperienced to this.
My buddy passes are from a 20yr United buddy.
I'm planning on bringing my family from either SFO or LAX to KOA, in late June for a week.
My days are really only one day flexible on either side.
Is it crazy to expect to get my family of five within that one day constraint?
    Thanks for help.

I don't know about UA, but DL can be very tricky for party of 5 without making it clear that there could be a split. Kids need to know that it's possible so they don't have a meltdown.

Welcome aboard Moose, there’s a seat for you down front and the lounge and snacks are straight back.
I’m going to come down on the side of - not worth the aggravation and headache. Hawaii typically has high non-rev loads, add to that June (peak season for weddings/honeymoons and family travel) plus 5 people on buddy passes with only 1 day of leeway - it has (Black Hole) days in the airport written all over it.

My suggestion, non-rev to LAX/SFO and purchase tickets onward. Both HA and WN have periodic airfare deals from the west coast to Hawaii. Go on their sites and sign up for special deals.

    Thanks guys.
    Another one.
Are these websites like cheaptickets and orbitz and Priceline good for finding tickets or just keep looking fir mainline sales and signup for their Deals emails?
    cheers

Well I send my buddies to the AA site, but some do stray and look at Google Flights.

If it helps, UA announced that KOA-DEN will expand service starting in June, I believe it was. I'm sure it'll be on a 757-200, but I wouldn't be surprised if that has some open seats on certain days of the week.
