    Default July 5 to Phoenix

I'm thinking of flying standby SLC-PHX for a funeral July 6. The conventional wisdom says not to fly on Friday or the day after a holiday, but MyIDTravel is showing 9+ open seats (it never shows more than 9) on virtually all the flights July 5. Would that be because everyone who is holidaying that weekend is taking Friday off work and leaving on or before July 4, and any business travelers are going home on Wednesday that week?

If that's true, I would also expect a lot of people to fly home Sunday evening, more so than on the usual Sunday. Yet MyIDTravel is also showing 9+ open seats on most PHX-SLC flights July 7. Are my expectations out of whack?

    Thanks!

Yes, most people are probably taking a 4 day weekend around July 4. Sunday after is tricky.

As I understand it, myIDtravel is showing fare buckets, not the number of actual unsold seats, plus it tells you nothing about oversales and non-revs. I'm with isppilot, summer+weekend+holiday travel can be tricky, add to that you're OA......sometimes you just have to pay the piper.
    Good Luck

I would think most people are flying the 2nd or 3rd for the holiday. It might be a challenge to fly home on Sunday, though, since everyone else will likely be doing the same. Having said that, PHX is not exactly a big July 4th destination. I recommend checking the loads with airline you want to fly a little earlier than normal to get a handle on whether it is actually open or just not horribly tight so you can make plans appropriately.

this myIDtravel is so strange, I bought some zed for my son. Flight were showing red with few seats shown fare bucket. I decided to buy it. As soon as I pay and list, you can list on myIDtravel with QR, the same flight was shown green.
