Default Ever get asked about company stock quote in interview?

This happened to a friend recently interviewing at a major. The HR rep asked him about the current price of company stock, and he rattled off the share price. He was pretty confident in his knowledge of the company, but totally fell flat when she asked him if that was a good or bad thing.

Why the HR folks grill an interviewee like that is beyond me, but I found a way to handle that and perhaps have an idea who might still be in business and not do furloughs in the near future. Gotta look at it like the top company officers and think of company financial health. I found a link to a table of "valuations" that shows whether an airline is in the red or not.

Of course, why interview if the stock is not worth anything and the company is in big debt. Interesting to look at, though.

    Cheers.

What position was he interviewing for? Accountant? If a guy interviewing me for technician's job ask me what the stock of the company was on that day, I would say...."Uh, sorry, I don't know because I was changing my transmission and don't have the time for E-TRADES nor following the stocks, but if you hire me now, I'll be sure to enroll in a 401 K and perhaps even lock in on some of that company stock at a discount, maybe then I'll give a shite at what the company stock is worth.....AYEHOLL!"

As in she asked him if it was a good or bad thing he knew the stock price? Why would it be a bad thing?
