Abandoned airstrip? That sounds like drug runner type thing. Airports that suddenly pop up, and when mission accomplished, later overcome by foilage. Sounds like CIA kinda stuff, abandoned airstrips like Opa Locka, Palmerola Air Base, Howard, Tinian, Chanute....the list is crazy long. Never mind the cars. You wanna fly, get on a jet.

Well, Palmerola Air Base is not really an abandoned airstrip. The name only has been abandoned. It's called......
Palms that’s El Toro Marine Air Station. It’s now a ghost town and film location.

Neatest abandoned airstrip, bar none has to be the ones on northern part of Tinian. Where the superfortresses, took off to bomb Japan, and the nukes were flown from there. You drive your car rental all over the airstrips there and visit the atomic bomb pits. Pretty abandoned of a time long gone. There was also one on the north end of Saipan, which was pretty heavily conceiled with grass but you knew you were on it.
