On Wednesday, an airport baggage handler who formerly worked for Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas was arrested for allegedly stealing handguns from checked luggage and trading them for marijuana.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office, 25-year old Ja’Quan Johnson of Austin, Texas, surrendered to the Federal Bureau of Investigation on a federal criminal complaint that charges him with theft from an interstate shipment and possession of stolen firearms.
The criminal complaint claims Johnson managed to steal an unspecified number of handguns from inside the checked baggage of passengers at the Austin airport between Nov. 29, 2016, and Feb. 2, 2017. Johnson is also accused of trading several of the weapons for marijuana.
