Lufthansa posted a long list of short- and medium-haul flights to and from Germany's Frankfurt Airport that are canceled in advance of a strike scheduled by the German pilots' union "Vereinigung Cockpit" (VC) for today (Sept. 5) from 5 p.m. till 11 p.m. local time.
The strike may affect up to over 200 flights and more than 25,000 passengers and likely cause ripples in schedules elsewhere.
The six-hour strike is tied to disputes over salary increase and retirement issues.
"As well as demanding a 10 percent salary increase, the union is demanding the reinstatement of a benefit that enabled pilots to retire early at 60 on partial pay. Lufthansa pilots can currently take paid early retirement from the age of 55, however the airline wants all fit pilots to keep flying until 65," Deutsche Welle explained..
