Default ZED First Timer CLT to BKK info/advice pls

My brother and I are planning this trip end of March beginning of April of this year. We have US passports and work out of CLT (US Airways/American). Joined nonrevcheckin and that seems to have some useful info IRT ZED PSA. They guys at work seem to think the best route is clt to fra to BKK. I'm seeing CDG as a nice option or LAX in case we don't get on they may be a better place to get stuck. There is also emirates and some other options. What is your opinion? What ZEDs should we purchase? I also hear that Thai air needs a one week advance booking/checkin? Our plan is to hit Pattaya for a week and then maybe Laos for a few days. It's really kind of intimidating taking our first ZED fare but hopefully it will be a breeze. Fingers crossed. Any tips appreciated.

What is the farthest point in either direction that New American flies? That might be a start. How do your zeds work? Are most of yours ezeds or do you need to buy paper?
I'm guessing you're young party guys if you're gong to Pattaya? Do yourself a favor and spend time in tripadvisor forums, as well some ex-pat forums like:

Be aware of scams in BKK region. Thai people are wonderful but the unsavory element can ruin your vacation. Be well-informed. Our buddies went to Laos last year and enjoyed the experience--quite different from Thailand.Ours flew Daytona and SFO to NRT, then BKK. Did their own travel via LCCs and one did some river cruise and bus (our adventurer).
Lots of others w/your system can advise best options for AA and zeds.

Welcome aboard Dale. There’s a seat for you right down front.
I think you’ll find the Forum’s ZED Travel article http://nonrev.net/content/119-what-zed-fare.html quite useful and you can drop
AAZED http://nonrev.net/general-discussion...ed-travel.html a line if you have additional questions.
