Default Question on Non-Rev travel with a travel companion.

Hi and thanks for taking the time to read this! My name is Addie and I am new to the airlines industry. I work with Cape Air Airlines which flies Cesna 402 9 seat planes. We also partner with various airlines such as AA, Southwest, Jetblue, and United. United is probably our closest business partner with the company and one of the benefits is non-rev travel with a travel companion. Being as I am new to this, I was not sure what the regulations and guidelines there were regarding travel companions? I don't have a spouse, and wanted to bring my sister traveling. I wasn't sure what was required, and if I am only allowed one companion. Any information would be wonderful! Also any tips you have regarding non-rev travel would be greatly appreciated (ex. which weekdays to avoid, which airlines have least delays, etc.) Thanks in advance for everyone who answers this!

Are your travel benefits under Cape air lines or United airlines? If under Cape then your travel companion will probably be able to only fly on Cape air flights. If you use united benefits (if you are concidered a regional carrier for united) then your companion will be able to fly on all united flights, including flights operated by other regional carriers. I just eent to the Cape Air website, because you can purchase tickets from Cape air then you are not a regional flyer for united. I would guess that your companion will only be able to fly on Cape Air flights.

You really need to check with your travel office for specifics.

Cape Air has a partnership agreement with United because United sometimes shares our routes, so Cape Air employees get essentially the same travel benefits as United. I just couldn't find out any documentation on regulations United has regarding the travel benefits on their airlines

Yeah, I would definitely check with your travel office. I checked some things out with our computer system, and it looks like United employees pay a $25 service charge to fly on Cape Air, and we can NOT bring a companion with us. I would imagine there to be some reciprocity. On the other hand, I did see that Cape Air employees fly at SA5X, which is the same priority as other United Express carriers (such as SkyWest). Also, when I was with SkyWest, they did allow for an enrolled friend if not married, so there's that too.

Hard to say for sure, but I would have to guess that your sister would not be able to travel with you on your benefits. Check with your pass travel office to be sure, since we don't have any active Cape Air members around here.
