Default EWR to SFO and LAX Business Class on nonrev

I am fairly sure that rev customers from EWR to SFO and EWR to LAX and vice versa are not upgraded unless they are Global Services or 1k or use an upgrade pass. Given this are nonrev fliers who select business more likely (as is the case in international flights) to get the business class seats as opposed to almost impossible on most domestic flights?

If you look on United.com for, lets say todays 6am flight, and look at the united business upgrade standby list you can see two things. First, business class is FULL, second is there are 9 on the upgrade list. Given the data from this flight I doubt business class will be available for non-revenue travel. Being a long flight this is when most people use their upgrade status. Most are not wanting to use points when the flight is 1 to 2 hours.

    Yes,point taken
but am I correct that there is no auto-upgrade like all other domestic flights and if it's going to happen it would on this flight (there are several per day and the one I am looking at only has 1 other pass rider. The point about people using their points or RPU's on this flight is valid. That is why we got to book at las moment, just wanted to know if anyone else had success because it's literally almost impossible domestically (only had it happen 1 time).
