Two flight attendants were assaulted on a Tuesday US Airways flight, one so badly that he was carried off the aircraft on a stretcher and hospitalized, reports WCNC TV of Charlotte.
The incident happened Tuesday night just after US Airways Flight 2005 pushed back from its gate in CLT en route to FLL. US Airways is now part of American Airlines, WCNC has the full report:
"Officers say a passenger started yelling and screaming. When the attendants went to investigate, the suspect allegedly punched both of them. "
"One of the flight attendants was 58, and the other 34 years old. The older attendant was carried out of the plane on a stretcher for serious injuries. After the fight started, the aircraft immediately returned to the gate and officers say the suspect surrendered peacefully."
Eyewitnesses tell WCNC the suspect had been screaming about assassins on the plane just before the confrontation. The TV station says the man was to undergo a mental health evaluation but that he would be charged with assault once he is released.
The flight eventually took off for Florida after a delay to address the situation.
