Has anyone visited Kruger National Park in So Africa? I will be traveling there in mid April, and am interested in any reccomendations for hotel deals and game drives into the park for nonrevs.

Thanks

Hi Skewter,
I've been to Kruger 4 or 5 times in the last few years but never stayed in 'private' lodges just in the SA National Parks 'camps' .. see www.sanparks.org for details of accomodation offered. Game drives are also offered from the camps and you should be able to see prices for these as well at this site. Its quite a drive from JNB and as the Park gates close early I tend to stay at the Nelspruit Road Lodge which offers a 50% disc SA ( see citylodge.co.za ) which is about an hour from the Paul Kruger gate. In respect of game viewing you can also just drive around the park in your own ( or a hire ) vehicle .. there are only a few tracks which in the wet are only accessible by 4x4 all the others are fine. Personally I've stayed a couple of nights at a camp and then driven on ( via a scenic and game hunting route ) to the next one and so on. Sometimes the game is hard to see but you learn to look through the obvious bush after a while and sometimes the game is easy to see .. such as a lion and lioness lying down the middle of the road as I was driving along one of the back tracks.
If you need more info then let me know.

Pieter and Paul, thanks for your response.

I'm now looking for lodging in the Hazyview area for a scenic tour of Mpumalanga area. If either of you have any suggestions, feel free to pass them on.

Thanks again.

Check out the Protea Hotels chain at http://www.proteahotels.com as they often give a good travel industry rate.
