Envoy Air Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of AA will close its hub and shrink operations in Miami by April 2015.

A layoff notice posted Nov. 3 said about 478 positions will be affected by the closure. MIA workers will have to reapply for openings at larger Envoy hubs at LGA and ORD according to a letter to Envoy employees dated Oct. 3.
In the letter, Envoy President & CEO Pedro Fábregas said the carrier will reduce its operations from 60 daily flights to 37 at MIA by Dec. 18.
Although Fort Worth, Texas-based Envoy will still operate in Miami, American Airlines Spokesperson Maria Thomas said the company will no longer base its 124 flights attendants and 245 pilots there. Their positions will start to phase out in January.

No workers will be furloughed and Thomas said about 50 management positions will be eliminated. The remaining positions lost locally are in warehousing, transportation and hangar operations.
Republic Airlines, a contracted carrier for American Airlines, will increase its operations at MIA, but Thomas did not say if employees would be hired for any new positions at Republic.
Envoy has about 200 aircraft that fly about 1,200 daily flights to more than 150 destinations
