The Caribbean airline LIAT reported that, at approximately 6:39 am on Tuesday morning, several its pilots took strike action, leading to a disruption of morning flights which was likely to cause disruption of service for the rest of the day.
Cbn4 News spoke to a customer service representative who said the refusal to work is a result of industrial action taken by Leeward Islands Air Line Pilots’ Association (LIAPLA). LIAT suggested that LIALPA might have breached the bargaining rules.
“The company has not been provided with the required notification of industrial action as required under its agreement with the pilots,” said the airline.
LIAT apologized for any inconvenience caused and said it will compensate those who have been inconvenienced. Those who wish to rebook may do so free of charge for a period not exceeding one week from the date of their original scheduled flight. After the one week, passengers who wish to travel will be charged the normal rebooking fee.
Inconvenienced passengers who are unable to travel within the one week grace period or within the rebooking period allotted, will be refunded full credit for travel any time preceding the mentioned times at their request and, of course, including terms and conditions.
