    Default Europe Spring 2015

We're planning on going to Europe and did not see a lot of Delta routes to our destinations. How big a deal is it to ZED your way around Europe if needs be? We might also want a side trip to Tel Aviv. What's the best "Delta entry/exit" to/from Europe? I was thinking CDG, but I really don't know. Thanks for any advice.

What destinations are you interested in traveling to ?

While code share flights do present problems -ZED fares can be a work around.
Remember flying is not the ONLY was to get around in Europe.
Railroads can work to your advantage for short distances between countries.
Compare the costs and hassle of air travel against ground transport.

Re: Travel to Israel beware do not have any connections or plans of travel thru
countries that have issues with Israel !

Re: Best entry/exit points - Amsterdam (AMS) is perhaps the best with more
flights with Delta metal and KLM to more USA destinations. London would in my
opinion be next best especially with new alliance with Virgin Atlantic. Regarding
Paris (CDG) I would avoid that until a last resort situation - reason in reading
some of the aviation forums AF is not quite a user friendly code share partner.
Don't overlook Rome (FCO) Madrid (MAD) and Frankfurt (FRA) for ZED opportunities
    as well as smaller cities.

HINT: While on a Delta flight take the Delta SKY MAGAZINE out of the seat pocket
and take it with you. Look in the back of the magazine for Delta and code share
partners routings. Look up the websites of the ZED participants to see what clicks
with your travel plans ! Learn how to use these websites to possibly determine the
availability of space - easy on Delta with both Delta.com and TravelNet and not an
exact science on the code share partners and ZED participants.

Good Luck and PLAN well with alternatives - Spring is a good time for travel also
plan carefully around the holidays of the USA and the foreign countries you will visit !

Thanks for the reply, R.M. Central Austria is where our friends live, so I think there are 2 or 3 airports that leave us with a reasonable drive (or train trip). We're still really new to this - just our first year.

What happens when we get the AMS and there are no Delta flights? Can we list on code share partners the same way we do on Delta? (That would really make it more flexible for getting around.) I did a ZED flight on WN last week and that was cool, but I've never flown on a partner.

    Thanks again.

Easy FOMTS...Very early in the Game. Try back late January. DL is ramping up Europe and additional routes and sections might be available.

Some routes are seasonal, so the destination map in SkyMag is not always pertinent--just check flight options before assuming the route is valid for your dates. Just be prepared to have a Plan B and C, as well a train options (seat61.com is a great start for that)
