Allegiant Air, which is suspending flights between Hawaii and seven West Coast cities starting next month, plans to lay off 17 of its 37 Honolulu-based flight attendants.

Allegiant notified the flight attendants in writing that the cuts would be made starting in the next couple of weeks, according to a spokesman for the TWU Local 577.

The flight attendants were told they could bid on open jobs in other cities, and that the airline would pay for up to $3,000 in moving expenses, he said.
Allegiant said in April that it will stop flying to Hawaii from Boise, Idaho; Eugene, Ore.; Phoenix; Spokane, Wash.; and the California cities of Fresno, Stockton and Santa Maria, effective Aug. 14.
Allegiant said the BOI and GEG flights would be reinstated during the second week of December.
