Frontier Airlines said it will offer its first flights out of San Jose International Airport, with an introductory fare of $29 and service to four cities.

“Low fares done right” was how James Fenner, Frontier’s director of financial planning and analysis, described the air carrier’s approach to air travel during an event on Tuesday to disclose the new service.
Las Vegas, Denver, and the Texas cities of Austin and San Antonio are the cities that Frontier will serve on a non-stop basis, starting this fall.
“You don’t have to sacrifice simplicity to be affordable,” Fenner said.
The fares will be offered on a one-way basis.
“We are committed to being San Jose’s and Silicon Valley’s low-cost airline,” Fenner said.
Frontier’s service to Denver will begin Oct. 5 and to Las Vegas on Nov. 1, the airline said. Service to Austin and San Antonio is due to begin in the spring of 2018.
“These are great markets.” San Jose City Councilman Johnny Khamis said Tuesday. “There are a lot of connections.”
By the time all four routes are being offered out of San Jose next spring, Frontier will serve 80 airports nationwide and reach 90 percent of the U.S. population with low fares, Fenner said.

The four cities might appeal to a mix of leisure travelers who might want to get to Las Vegas, as well as business travelers seeking to access reach tech-oriented business hubs such as Austin or Denver.
“All of these destinations have been ranked as top destinations for San Jose residents and businesses,” San Jose Mayor San Liccardo said. “Frontier’s focus on Silicon Valley reflects the growing importance and interest in our region among both business and leisure travelers.”
