I've heard of possible weight restriction issues for non-revs leaving CAI on DL. How often does this happen? How many seats are blocked when weight restrictions are implemented? Thanks.

Since I've been watching some CAI/JFK flights recently, I can tell you it's very difficult for employees lately. I've seen one flight go out w/50 empty seats and sometimes 3. DL co-pilot told me one went out with nearly 100 empty seats, but I didn't see those numbers myself.
I'll keep checking, but I would have some zeds in hand for Amman (which is awesome!) or Dubai. We're planning for early Dec but most likely using high priority for inbound.
PS--several crew members have had tough cases of Mummy Tummy, so be extra cautious. Local med is Antinal but I haven't done the "drug research" yet.
You have weight restrictions CAI/JFK? What sort of plane are you flying... a flying boat? http://www.nonrev.net/forums/style_e...R#>/tongue.gif
Never quite heard the expression "MUMMY TUMMY". Must be an "Airline" type of term but I get the hint.
FYI--a few nonrev employees are making the CAI/JFK
rarely buddy pax are
none from OAL
there are typically 20 inconvenienced pax on every recent flight
no empty seats tho

I had not heard that either but I like it.
I've known it as "Nefertiti's revenge"
I ate food from street vendors in Cairo and was ok.
Strong stomach or luck I guess..........

I haven't been to Cairo, but I did get "sick as a dog" after eating a hotdog from a cart in NYC (off Times Square).
Trust me, sick as a dog! http://www.nonrev.net/forums/style_e...DIR#>/wink.gif

Gotta find the right cart for that. I had one in NYC back in November and I was quite disappointed. I saw other carts that looked way better selling everything like Italian sausage, Polish sausages, but by the time I saw those, I had all ready eaten something else and wasn't hungry.
Sabrett is the street dog of choice--just a regular ol' NY tubesteak--snappy casing
belching is optional one block after eating....
now Nick--you aren't going to miss a big greasy slice of pizza--folded over and dripping down your wrist, are you??
stop and say Hi to my nephew if you're in Central Park---he's in groundskeeping--big guy named Matthew--known by all the staff!

NOw I've seen it all!! a pizza tour of brooklyn! what a hoot
I could eat my way thru NY!! my ex-fiance was in the food biz and I've had some pretty awesome meals--Jean Georges Vongericten, Aquavit, Lydia's Foie gras, Daniel {bouloud} etc. and a slice on the street is hard to beat!
Have a great time!!!
back to topic--been watching loads and seeing some nonrevs get on some flights
even tho loads show pos seats in J, there are so many HK's sometimes 20-30
but not seeing empty seats this week
They claim Brooklyn pizza is the best pizza in the NYC buroughs but if you can get a slice of pizza ANYWHERE within those buroughs including New Jersey, you're still way ahead of the game. ITS ALL GOOD UP THERE. It's like saying which is colder. New York or New Jersey. Its all cold whenever the mercury dips.

Update on CAI/JFK
We've been warned about cargo again
We're still planning to go in a few weeks, but Plan B and C options are MUSTS since frequency is not daily
To get back to the States, our best options are:
AF to CDG
KL to AMS
LH to FRA
BA to LHR or BMI or EgyptAir (my last choice)
All have nonstops but few leave as redeyes so connecting means another overnight soemwhere
Anyone else have suggestions?
Cactusplt--when are you going and which guide did you choose (price info, too) please
I went to CAI about two weeks ago and was planning on leaving on the 12:30am flight on Sunday morning. About 6 hours before teh flight I checked the numbers and it went from what was about 20 open seats down to 0. I was number 1 on the list (even though I don't have Mrs767's seniority). I got a little nervous because of the weight restrictions and the fact that the next flight was 48 hours later and was oversold by 15 or so. Like any experienced non-rev international traveler I had a backup.... LH to FRA for $103. I thought I would play it safe and go to Germany. Upon arrival in FRA, I logged on to see if I made the right choice. Delta flight from CAI to JFK left with 5 empty seat an NO non-revs!!! $103 well spent. I just wish LH upgraded me as there were business class seat that were open. ALWAYS have an out.
Scott--what's the scoop? What about your trip??
"MUST HAVE INPUT" (Johnny Five robot?)
please
I had to leave sunny and warm Tampa to go up to Boston for 5 days to cover the office while my business partner was out of town. This was the same week my wife was on her annual "girls trip" with co-workers (this year was Chile). I decided that on my way home I would stop off and see the pyramids. left BOS and headed down to JFK. I had about a two hour layover which was not too bad. Ended up with seat 1B and had a nice trans-Atlantic crossing. Upon arrival you board a shuttle bus to the terminal where you can change currency and get your visa ($15) if you do not have one. The hotel I choose was the Concord Dokki which is located a few hundred yards west of the Nile. It is more on the lower end as far as hotels go, but it had a clean bathroom and the bed was good. For $45 a night what more do you expect. Cab ride was negotiated at $70 Egyptian Pounds (about $14-$15US) and with traffic the ride was about an hour long. I asked the hotel clerk about the pyramids, and he told me for $20US he could get me a taxi to take me to the pyramids, Memphis and Sacarra. Sounded a little too good to be true, but I would find out in the morning. Next day met the taxi driver in the lobby and we headed out. On the way to Giza he asked me if I wanted to just directly to the pyramids or take a camel ride.(As a side note, I had already read reviews and almost everyone agreed NOT to get on a camel as they always hit you up for a lot of money after they get you out there.) I inquired about the price and it worked out to about $25US. All my instincts told me to say no, but for some reason I agreed. It turned out to be one of my best travel decisions ever! We traveled through the desert for about 50 minutes, stopping in different spots to get pictures along the way. I spent another 15-20 taking pics of the pyramids and Sphinks. Another 50 minutes ride back and off we went. Next stop was the Sacarra pyramids about 25 minutes away. Last stop was the Memphis museum with the statue of Ramses II.
I was back at the hotel about 1:00pm, had lunch and headed out on foot. I crossed the Nile by the opera house and worked my way to the Egyptian Museum. Entrance fee was about $6-$7US if I remember correctly. I did a lot of walking around sightseeing nowhere in particular. 1:00am back in a taxi to the airport for my 4:20am LH to FRA. Total time on the ground in Cairo: 35 hours!
Nice work.. you got that cab for half of what it cost my friend and I. And we baragined hard with a driver, not a hotel taxi driver either!
Arriving at CAI at around midnight was probably the worst place i've ever arrived at. The lonesome arabic speaking BA flight attendant told me to pay the 100le each for a car to the hotel... still wasn't convinced I was going to get there!
I have to admit though that learning arabic numbers before I left was very helpful at negotiating prices
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Nick @ Sep 6 2009, 07:48 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div>Oh my that does sound risky! I think I'd be one to just ask you how the desserts/cakes are in Luxor.. not game enough for that! :PQuote:

update for anyone interested:
I've been monitoring so many CAI/JFK flts I'm dizzy (no, not DITSY!!)
and last nights was the topper!!!
30 seats open--half coach half biz:
13 nonrevs, then 7 nonrevs (no seats assigned--they just disappeared) several hours showed only 4 norevs on list,
PAST SKED--and no one got seats
So--we're now going to wait for Feb vacation and try again (we have 2 wks) and we're off to Riviera Maya for some sun (Maroma Beach)
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (mrs767er @ Dec 1 2009, 10:22 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div>Ah-hah, the Achilles' heel of non-rev travel, "disappearing seats". It happens alot on the Hawaii flights too. http://www.nonrev.net/forums/style_e...DIR#>/wink.gifQuote:

The seats were STILL THERE! 30 empty ones
ARGHHHHH
We attempted CAI in October-We were 2 nonrevs on a S2 with no bags and were left behind. It took a while to get from the ticket counter (past security) back out to the DL Ticketing desk where we bought Zeds on AF to CDG. After the JFK flight on DL-you have AF to CDG at 1a and then KL to AMS at 3a....after that you are out of luck.....
AF has one flight every day at 7:30 AM now
the 1:45 am is only avail 2X/wk
AF zed low fare for DL emps is $94
(buy beforehand because the personnel may not be on duty to issue them)
KLM is a little over $100 each and they have 8am every day and 4:30 some days
You can also buy ID90's on Egyptair but I don't recommend any long flights
(you can also get to AMM on Royal Jordanian zed med and overnight--DL to JFK schedule is not every day)
just do your homework and remember those redeye dates can get confusing for connections
