Heading to Marakech in April. Planning on DFW to MAD to RAK, then on return flight, RAK to MAD to FRA for a day or two before return to DFW.
Any suggestions on what to do while in Marakech?
Thanks,

watch your person--they get very grabby in the markets
we went to Fes last year. We really tried but hated almost everything about the atmosphere and people in regards to lying, cheating, confrontation.
And Fes is supposed to be the more cultural and relaxed of the 2 cities!!
Our original goal was Marakech. Just our opinion, but we had some of the best digs in Fes (Riad Myra) and lots of info/advice prior. I'd been to other Arabic countries and I doubt I will ever return to Morocco--sure won't be with my husband cause he liked it a LOT less (and he wasn't the one being grabbed)
I went back to my travel files and I must have already deleted any info I had to pass on--sorry)
EVERYTHING is haggled for in the markets out there. If you pay full price, you're a sucker :) . Some people from my school in SVQ went to Morocco, and I guess someone offered 40 camels for one of the girls in the group. Whether he was serious or not, I have no idea.
First, I am NOT trying to tell you you won't like Morocco.
After all the research and emails and contacts wiht guides and previous visitors, I was totally prepared to like it.
One of the worst problems of getting opinions in sources like tripadvisor and frommers and fodors, etc, is that many of the people you deal w/in Morocco are the ones lying to you and dummy-ing reviews etc. I guess there must be some honest people there (look for the Berbers, I understand now)
I just ckd into TA for some info and it's rampant w/shysters and touts looking for prey. I do wish you luck, and I hope you don't need it. Shopping is the WORST Even when you get to the price you're willing to pay, it's still twice as much as you can buy the same thing online (and it is all available..)
Yeah, everyone did make it back. Although, there was a warning notice at our school advising students against going to Morocco based on some things that have happened to Americans out there (mostly volunteers living there)
Thanks for all the responses and warnings! I think I'll stick with the group we'll be with. They're planning some excursions during the conference.
