Best way to get top of respective stand by list?

I've heard conflicting reports that (and I'm not an employee but related to one), that it's either:

-The time you check in at the airport self-serve computer

OR

-The time you call or list yourself through the phone/jetnet at home or where ever regardless of the day/time.

is where you will stand on the standby list.
Ex) D2 passenger lists himself 3 days before a flight, checks in at airport 30 minutes before boarding VERSUS D2 passenger who lists himself 4 hours before a flight and checks in at airport three hours before boarding.

Which route is it exactly better to use? :confused:

Based on the lingo you're using, I assume you're with AA? Every other airline is based on seniority and a few other things, time of listing/check in has virtually nothing to do with it.

Anyway, I've always heard that AA is based on time of check-in, nothing more. But I'd trust Migflanker's word over my own :)

Boarding priority is based on your pass classification & the time you checked in for your flight.
There’s a 24-hour check-in window - much more convenient than the four hour window
we use to have.
So you can check-in as early as 7a.m. the previous day for a 7a.m. flight.
In terms of your example-- check-in on line 24 hours out.:cool:

Just to add that a D2T (thru passenger - meaning someone who is arriving from another connecting flight) will go ahead of a D2.

I work with WestJet and our priority system is similar to American Airlines. Priority is based on time of check-in. Check-in opens for all non-rev employees 24-hours prior to scheduled departure time. We can check-in online, at a Kiosk, or at the Check-in counter 24-hours prior to the flight. We can start to list for flights two weeks prior to the date of departure, and can list for the return flight (as long as it is booked on the same itinerary) for any date with no time restrictions.
