See this is where it gets tricky. So if you got 15yrs and don't feel like getting to DFW 3 hours before CUN departure and a new hire stays overnight and bumps you and your fam? Cmon...
Check in is done online 24 hours prior to departure. No need to check in at the airport.
I'm of a similar mind. I like the seniority based boarding. There has to be some benefit that comes along with staying for so many years.
I always thought that AA system is the best, everybody is equal and with Jetnet you can check in online 24h before, no need to go to that airport 4 hours prior like the old days.
Regarding another new rule, on a selfish point of view and as a retiree I am less happy because we will go after any active employee.
Non reving is not getting easy specially with the arrival new Airbus with less capacity and it will be more a challenge for us.
However, one good thing with this new priority rule is for my fellows TWA retirees they were always close to the bottom of the list, even after D3 which I think was quite unfair. No them and us will be on the same boat.
Anyway I still consider myself very lucky to be travel the world.

I agree about the retirees getting the short end of the stick. It is not what they agreed to when they retired. If they are going to do this, they should at least get a retiree D1 equivalent, perhaps a limited number of D2 passes to use.
Retirees....limited amount of "equal to current employees" passes would be ok. But in my opinion, to permanently be at the same level as a current employee is pushing it. I know this is a controversial opinion, but hey...when you were working, you went ahead of teh pack because you had your 40 years. To continue to do so, even though you're not an active employee any more, uhh uhhh no.
Again, just my opinion, and no offense to anyone meant, active or retired.
Especially when working on the frontline... a lot of us have to get back in time for work, retirees generally have more time to work with :)
I have to agree with Tony and Bue on this, even tho Boss is retiring early at 60. It would be nice if something like bonus S3 once or twice/yr but I doubt that will happen. I totally disagree about a level playing field w/FCFS. Way too Mao for me.
It does seem like UA is full of compromises and different situations. Overall, I like our system. Actually, I sent an email to a new co-worker (well, new as employee - she's been around for a while as a contractor, not that it matters). For those curious about UA...
SA0: Employees/spouse/domestic partner on vacation pass, United Express on own “metal” (SkyWest employee on SkyWest plane, for example)
SA1: Employees/spouse/domestic partner on regular pass
SA2: Retirees, United Express employees on other United Express metal (SkyWest employee on GoJet plane, for example)
SA3: Parents/children/enrolled friend on vacation pass
SA4: Parents/children/enrolled friend on regular pass
SA5: United Express employees on mainline United flight, I believe Star Alliance nonrevs from other airlines also fly at this priority (rare)
SA6: Extended family buddy
SA7: Regular buddy
SA8: Other airlines (ZED or ID90) outside of Star Alliance (also rare)
SA9: Fee-waived First class. Fly at your own risk. As an employee, you (nobody else on your pass rider list) can take this really low priority. When it’s your turn to be called, if you can get a seat in First or Business, there’s no charge for it. Useful for that morning flight to Aspen where there are 4 people booked on the flight and you’re the only nonrev.

It is posted on jetnet. Unfortunately, they have created a new category for retirees, D2R, which goes after D2 and before D2P but now includes TWR (TWA retirees). This is supposed to go into effect mid-2014.
