Question regarding employee stand by tickets given to friends

Hello. Was wondering if someone could help me. My husband and I were given 2 R/T stand-by tickets to Italy recently and paid the AA employee $1900 directly to their bank account. We never used the tickets bc 1). We couldn't get on the outbound flight- it was booked and 2). Someone at AA xcld our return flight without us knowing-online. We found this out after we were at the airport trying to check in. I was told the date and time the flight was xcld and that it was done by someone at headquarters. So my question is::: How do we go about getting our $1900 back? We never used the tickets. Thx for your help. The employee has refused to refund us our money "Nice friend" :/

I'm not quite sure how AA handles their guest passes, but it sounds fishy that you had to pay that much for a standby pass. Not saying you were scammed, but it sounds very odd.

Plus how sure are you they are an actual employee?

Yes- 100% positive he is an employee of AA. He's been there for 25 years --MIA. The reading Ive done sounds like you are not supposed to sell your buddy passes. Anyway...thx for your response. We will get the money back. It's a situation where a friendship went bad...

If headquarters cancelled the ticket, there is a very good likelihood that your "friend" no longer works at AA.

I know that here at SWA, we can be terminated for selling our buddy passes.

You are generally allowed to be repaid the cost of your buddy passes, but no more. $950 round trip per person does sound a bit steep, but there are different factors involved (such as your origin). Probably could have gotten confirmed tickets at that price!
