Korea

Has anyone travelled to Korea? We will be there in mid-September. I am looking for a good travel guide - so far with little luck. The only one's who have a book are Lonely Planet, but they're several years old.

I've tried Frommers, Fodors and Rough Guides with no luck. I've searched Amazon, bn and buybooks with pathetic results.

Can anyone give me any ideas on who I may have missed or recommend a good guide and where to pick one up?

Amazon.com lists "The Moon Handbook: South Korea" as their best guide.
You might end up with the internet as your best resource.

Just saw your post.
Have been to SEL several times but not in the last 5 years, and nowhere else in the country unfortunately.
Agree that guide books seem few and far between.
Suggest the KNTO which has offices in CHI. Website is not bad but a bit slow at times.

Maybe even some KE staff in CHI could give you some tips.

Have always had lots of fun in SEL, but met up with Korean colleagues each time. My recommendation would be to find a local contact thru friends or colleagues at home before you go if you are able.
You can always have more fun in a place with a local contact.
Don’t expect to find many people who speak English outside the major cities, and often not in the cities either, so make sure you have a phrase book with you.
Hotels in SEL are often very full with conventions etc, and aren’t cheap either.
The food is fantastic, if you like lots of chillies and garlic.
The local firewater (soju), a bit like sake, is good, but creeps up on you.
The mountains are beautiful according to an Italian friend of mine (married to a Korean).

I've pretty much used LP guides for for Asia, but if there is a Footprint guide, they're pretty good also, just not quite as good with listing budget accomodations as LP.

My vacation pictures never turn out as wonderful as yours did.
I love the pictures of the food markets. And I think the Temple Guardians shot would make a great Christmas card.

There are lots of sites that offer this service. Assuming that you store your photos on your PC you can visit any of the following sites and then upload them from your PC to the site by simply following the instructions given.

www.shutterfly.com/ This site is also a photo development store. Once uploaded you can order any of your pics. I use this site often.

I use www.snapfish.com . I don't have a digital camera yet. I just take my photos with a regular camera and send them my film. They develop the film for a competitive price, send me an e-mail as soon as they are online. Then they send me the prints in the mail. I now have an online album with over 500 photos. I or any of my family can order additional prints for about 45 cents or so each. I can also order enlargements, high resolution downloads for printing my own photos on my PC or a CD with my pics.
