I recently won standby award passes on Qantas. My wife and I are planning the trip for Aug 17 (LAX-SYD) to Aug. 24 (SYD-LAX). Any thoughts on whether this is a good time for non-rev? Any flight load info? Any tips on what to do in SYD, never been there before? Thanks much.

Hi Mark - welcome to the forum.
I'm not with QF any longer, but there are people who pop in and out who are and who do post loads for you. Watch this space!!
Traditionally, mid to late August is a good time to come southbound as the summer rush from the America's is over for the most part. QF have that many flights down here per day now, there is bound to be something on or close to the days you are looking for.
As for tips on what to do in SYD, well, where does one start?!?!? http://www.nonrev.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Any interests, hobbies? Are you interested in seeing more than just SYD while you are down here??
Cheers.

I'm a Southwest Airlines employee and every year we have a holiday party. Before the holiday party we send out letters basically trading free passes on us for free passes on other airlines. Usually a few dozens airlines respond. This year, Qantas was one of them. A supervisor of mine was selected for the passes, but he couldn't use them...so he gave them to me......yeah!!!!

I non revved on QF in August 1999 LAX-SYD. The loads on the flight were good (August is a good time to fly) but I was not prepared for what I was advised at the airport..there is a weight restriction.. I did not make the flight back to LAX for that very reason, even though I was told there were approximately 70 seats available. Be prepared for this possibility, although I wonder if it will be a problem when QF puts the Airbus 380 on LAX-SYD route.
