Hi-- I am heading to Fiji from the US in March. Unfortunately, my company no longer has passes on Air New Zealand or Air Pacific…
I have been thinking, I may go by way of Sydney on Air Vanuatu (anybody have experience?) with a few days in Sydney and Vanuatu. This is ok on the way to Fiji, but on the way back I have a time constraint and can’t do this. Do Air Pacific or Air New Zealand offer any kind of discount for airline employees? If this is too expensive, I might take Virgin Blue (any discounts?) back to Sydney then to the US. I hoping for some advice getting home specifically, but I’ll take any I can get. This is one is proving a bit more challenging than I thought it would be. I would appreciate any help or advice.

PS Anybody know if there are any US air cargo carriers that go there, this might be an option for me. Thanks again….

You may be better off getting to HNL and then getting a cheap HNL-NAN return via a local consolidator on Air Pacific.
Alternately, use HA to PPG and then Polynesian Blue via APW to NAN using a revenue cheapie.

Thanks... I am looking into that.
I am trying to decide between spending a day in Vanuatu, Port Villa and extra day in Fiji. Or, two days in New Caledonia, Noumea. Which do you think would be better? Thanks again.

Ilike them all - they each have their own attractions. NOU is "quirky" - this modern Euro style city on a South Pacific island where they all speak French! Some of the outer islands in the group still retain more of a traditional South Pacific feel. Vila/Vanuatu is a favourite - so laid back and easy going, ramshackle in a good way, very friendly locals. Avoid any "cruise days" (P&O Australia run 2 to 3 cruise ships around the Sth Pac) to get a better feel. I personally think 1 day is not enough as visiting the outer islands is a must for any trip to Vanuatu.

Depends on what you are in to and all that. You can waste a day lying on a beach or go around the island on the one main road or head out to Tanna and see the original bungy jumping etc. Perhaps hitting a lonely planet forum or two to get a feel for what is there may be a start.
